On the occasion of Safer Internet Day, a National Workshop organized on the Role of Media in Child Online Protection in coordination with Press Council Nepal, National Child Rights Council and Nepal Telecommunication Authority including Voice of Children, Net4Good and Creation Society Nepal. The aim of the workshop was to make a safer online environment for children in media. The workshop was chaired by Balkrishna Basnet- Chairperson of Nepal Press Council, Honorable Bhanubhakta Joshi, Chairperson of the Education Health and Information Technology Committee of the Federal Parliament was chief guest, and the guest were Vice Chairperson of National Child Rights Council Bam Bahadur Baniya, Director of Nepal Telecommunication Authority Bijay Kumar Roy, Under Secretary of Ministry of Communications and Information Technology Rajkumar Maharjan, Under Secretary of Ministry of Women, Children, and Senior Citizen Sabita Aryal, and Dipesh Joshi from Nepal Police Cyber Bureau.
Prof. Dr. Kundan Aryal, Chief Officer of Press Council Japindra Bhusal presented the papers related on online safety and medias roles and, former president of Sancharika Samuha, journalist Neetu Pandit, and editor of Onlinekhabar Basant Basnet provided insightful commentary on the presentations.
Altogether 112 participants were from government sectors, medias, social organizations, internet services providers, etc.
